Moments of Kalmfulness Comes to Brighton

At Kalms, we know that in a world that rarely slows down, finding moments of calm can feel more important than ever. That’s why we talk about ‘kalmfulness’, a sense of feeling peaceful and untroubled within everyday life.

In 2023, we conducted a landmark survey ranking cities according to their stress levels. Brighton was found to be the most ‘kalmful’ city in the UK, with residents more likely than other cities to have healthier habits including eating a balanced diet and getting regular exercise.[i]

We believe kalmfulness can be experienced in many different ways – from the places we go and the people we spend time with, to the small moments in between. For some, it might be taking a few deep breaths or practising gratitude. For others, it could be spending time outdoors, enjoying a quiet moment at home or simply connecting with loved ones.

Many people find that time in nature helps them to unwind, with 65% of UK adults saying it helps them feel more relaxed. For those without easy access to green spaces, 52% say that simply viewing images of nature or tranquil scenes can also help them feel more at ease.[ii]

Inspired by these insights, we created the Moments of Kalmfulness gallery – originally developed as a digital space designed to inspire moments of pause. We’ve now brought the experience to life as a pop-up exhibition in Brighton, running from 27th April to 17th May.

Located on Brighton seafront next to the i360 and Upside Down House, the exhibition celebrates kalmfulness through photography. Visitors can explore a carefully curated collection of images capturing moments of peace and tranquillity.

The gallery includes contributions from the general public and local creatives, including the Brighton and Hove Camera Club, offering a range of perspectives on everyday moments of kalmfulness.
